Early College Program at Essex County College

The Early College Program

Essex County College’s Early College Program (ECP) is a dual enrollment program that gives Montclair High School seniors the opportunity to expand their high school course options while earning both high school and college credit. Credits earned can be used towards an associate degree, certification, and/or a four-year degree program.

Seniors enrolled in this program are eligible to participate in all senior activities but will not attend Montclair High School during regular school hours, as they will be considered full-time Essex County College students. Participating seniors will be responsible for providing their own transportation to ECC. The program will begin in early January, and all senior grades will be frozen at that time. Upon completion of this program at the end of May, participating seniors continue on to the MHS Career Internship Program (CIP). All ECP participants must enroll in the Career Internship Program.

All students must take the Accuplacer assessment at Essex County College or produce PARCC or SAT scores that meet ECC’s college level course placement minimum. Students must also enroll in 12-15 credits at ECC and follow the ECC calendar in regards to Spring Break, snow days, etc.

Montclair High School has a limited number of seats available for this program. Only students in good graduation standing will be considered.

Applications will be available in the team offices later in the school year. Interested seniors should return a completed application to their school counselor. Students selected to participate in this program will be notified in late November Please contact your school counselor with any questions about this program.
