Scholarships

The Montclair Office Of School Counseling encourages all seniors to investigate scholarship opportunities. National scholarships can be searched through one of any number of online scholarship search services, such as Fastweb or Chegg. Below is a list of useful websites.


Local/Regional Scholarships 

For a list of local or regional scholarships, please see below. The list is updated periodically as scholarships are received by the Office Of School Counseling. Please note, all scholarships that require a paper application are available in the Office Of School Counseling(Main Building, second floor).  


    



College Women's Club
Deadline: 3/25/23

The College Women's Club is offering scholarships to graduating seniors.  Applicants must provide their photo as part of the complete application packet, along with either a copy of their FAFSA report or CSS report.  Completed applications must be turned into your child's assigned counselor.  Click here to apply.

Karen L. Wall Memorial Scholarship
Deadline: 3/31/23

The Karen L. Wall memorial scholarship is offered by the Sing Phi Swing Social Fellowship, in partnership with the Imani Kuumba Foundation, to graduating seniors(female students only), who intend on continuing their education at the post-secondary level upon graduating.   Eligible applicants must demonstrate the following:  Submission of a short essay addressing one of the three questions provided as prompts, 2 letters of recommendations from non-related recommenders, letter of intent to attend college in the fall, the completion of the application form, minimum GPA of 2.75, and a letter of acceptance from an accredited college or university.  Click here to learn more and apply.



Congressional Black Caucus
Deadlines range from :3/18/23-4/28/23

The Congressional Black Caucus maintains a variety of scholarship opportunities that range in value from $3000-$70,000, which are available to African-American or Black students.  Requirements vary, but details can be viewed on the scholarship page that is operated by the C.B.C.  Click here to view all scholarship opportunties.


Community Foundation Of New Jersey
Deadline: 3/31/23

The CFNJ offers a plethora of scholarship applications for students who have already applied to and been accepted to a college or university for for the 2023-2024 academic year.  Criteria for eligibility varies by scholarship so please read each scholarship description in it's entirety.  Please note that only online applications will be accepted.  Please click here for a link to the universal application.  A complete list of scholarships included in the universal application is available here.



Asain Pacific Community Fund-multiple scholarships

Kao Kalia Yang Scholarship

Deadline:  4/3/23

APCF is offering the Kao Kalia Yang Scholarship in support of economically-challenged Hmong American youth as they pursue their dreams of obtaining a higher education.  This scholarship is open to high school seniors planning to attend college, and awards a $5000 scholarship for each of four years (upon meeting renewal requirements).  Applicants must be a blood descendant of Hmong racial origins and identify as Hmong American, with either U.S citizenship or legal permanent residency.  The recipient must provide their letter of acceptance to a college or university and have a minimum UNWEIGHTED GPA of 2.8.  To apply, please click here.

Kathy Banks Foundation Scholarship
4/3/23

The kathy Banks scholarship is offering (20)$1000 awards to graduating seniors who's family meets the federal guidelines for low-income, is planning to attend a 4-year institution in the fall of 2023, has an UNWEIGHTED GPA of 3.0.  Click here to apply.

Preferred Bank Scholarship

Preferred Bank is offering (8)$1,500 scholarships to graduating seniors who's family meets the federal guidelines for low-income, is planning to attend a two or four-year institution in the fall of 2023, has an UNWEIGHTED GPA of 3.0. Click here to apply.

Taiwanese American Scholarship Fund
Deadline: 4/3/23

The Taiwanese American Scholarship Fund is offering (10)$7,500 scholarships to graduating seniors or 1st year college students who are planning on attending a college or university in the fall of 2023.  Eligible applicants must be a U.S citizen or permanent residents, and be direct blood descendant of a Taiwanese citizen.  The applicant's family must meet the federal/state/local guidelines for low-income and be able to provide their 2021-2022 tax returns.  Click here to apply.



Nancy & Robert Escow NCJW/Essex Volunteer Awards
Deadline: 4/3/23

The Escow award recognizes graduating seniors who demonstrate their commitment to making life better for others by volunteering.  The scholarship awards a $500 cash award to the recipient.  It involves an essay, and letter of recommendation from either your school counselor or teacher, and someone affiliated with your volunteer experience.  Click here to learn more and apply.


Pomptonian
Deadline: 4/7/23

Pomptonian awards (4)$1000 scholarships, in memory of Giovina Coscia, to graduating seniors who who attend school in districts that are served by Pomptonian.  Click here to access the application.  


James B. Nye Scholarship
Deadline: 4/14/23

The James B. Nye scholarship is a $2,500 scholarship that is awarded to graduating seniors who will be attending a two or four year school beginning in the fall of 2023.  Applicants should write a 250-350 word essay in which they describe an activity, hobby, interest, or involvement that is most important to them.  They should include an anecdote that illustrates their commitment and enthusiasm for to that passion.  To apply, click here.


NJ Utility Association for Students
Deadline: 4/15/23

This application includes (4) scholarships that are awarded to students in a variety of areas.  These include the following: 

The James Leva Scholarship, which is offered to students who's family member worked for the NJUA;

The Excellence in Diversity Scholarship, which is offered to (2) female students from a minority background, or who have a disability;

The Trade & Vocational Scholarship, which is offered to a student who is planning on completing a trade or vocational degree at an acreddited school in NJ;

The National Association of Water Companies Scholarship, which is a $5,000 scholarship awarded to (2) students planning on attending a NJ college or university who are also interested in pursuing a career in the water utility industry or related field(environmental science biology, chemistry, resource management, engineering, etc).  Applicants must have resided in NJ for a minimum of 5 years, plan on attending a college or university in NJ, and have a minimum of a 3.0 GPA on a 4-point scale.

Montclair History Center
Deadline: 4/21/23

The montclair History Center is offering the Hortense Tate scholarship to seniors whoa re graduating in 2023 with the goal of ultimately attending college starting in the fall of 2023.  Recipients will receive a $1,000 scholarship in the form of a check that is given directly to the student in October of 2023.  Click here to apply.


Apha Kappa Alpha Scholarships
Deadline: 4/21/23

Alpha Kappa Alpha has four scholarships that are awarded to graduating seniors.  These include; The HBCU, Community Service, STEAM, and Doris H. Coleman Butterfly Book Scholarships.  All applications include aspects specific to that scholarship, as well as a supplemental personal statement which must be size-12 font, double spaced, with a maximum of 500 words.  To learn more about each of these opportunities, click here.



Student Insights
Deadline: 4/23/23

Student insight is sponsoring the "Student View" Scholarship program.  This program, which DOES NOT REQUIRE a fee, application form, minimum GPA, test score, or essay, will award 10-$500 scholarships, 2-$1000 scholarship, and 1-$5000 scholarship to high school seniors.  To learn more about this exciting opportunity, click here.


Kiwanis Club of Montclair
Deadline: 5/1/23

Kiwanis is offering (2)$1,000 scholarships to graduating seniors.  Eligible candidates should be able to demonstrate an extremely notable level of community service and leadership.  Financial need is not considered in the application process.  To apply, email your name, email, phone number, what organizations you are affiliated with, number of years with those organizations, and an adult recommendation(unrelated), to [email protected].  In a few paragraphs, please describe your volunteer experience, what roles you had in those organizations, and what volunteering means to you.


Jill Ann Newman Scholarship
Deadline: 5/1/23

The Jill Ann Newman Scholarship is a $2,000 scholarship awarded to a senior who is graduating from Montclair High School.  Eligible applicants must have demonstrated academic achievement, been involved in school programs and activities, and plan on attending an accredited college/university/career/technical school in the upcoming fall with a demonstrated interest in pursuing a career in education.  Special consideration is placed on students seeking a career in elementary or special education.  Click here to learn more and apply.


Essex County Director of Special Education

Deadline: 5/1/23

This award includes several one year scholarships to graduating seniors who have been accepted to an accredited college/university/technical/career trade school.  Eligible applicants must have been classified and receiving special education services and meet the following criteria; completed community service including charity work, Citizenship activities, academic achievement, financial need, self-advocacy, leadership, goals and ambitions.  Click here to access the application.   

Cornerstone Montclair
Deadline: 5/12/23

Cornerstone Montclair is an organization that seeks to create opportunities for individuals with disabilities to be active participants in their community through meaningful work and social engagement.   This organization offers $500 minimum scholarships to 2-3 Montclair High School Seniors who are planning to attend college in the fall of 2023.  Students can apply themselves or be nominated by a staff member, peer, or community leader.  The application involves an essay, but the overall application can be adapted to provide an avenue for all interested applicants to express their interest in being considered for the award.  Click here to learn more about this award and to apply.



Peace Islands Institute
Deadline: 5/14/23

The Peace Islands institute is hosting it's annual art contest in order to award scholarships in varying amounts to the winners of 4 different content areas that best embody the theme of the year; The impact of social media on peace-building.  To learn more about the contest and associated scholarship, please click here.


PB&J Foundation
Deadline: 5/31/23

Two $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to deserving high school seniors who are attending school in the United States, plan on attending a 2 or 4 year college, and have experienced personal challenges that may not have allowed them to perform well academically but who still have the drive to succeed.  Click here to apply
