The Montclair Public Schools Summary of State and District Testing for 2024-2025 (Spanish Version) provides a high-level overview of standardized assessments and other assessments given to students in our district. These include tests used for state graduation requirements as determined by the New Jersey State Department of Education (NJDOE). Specific testing dates of state assessment administration may vary by school and parents/guardians will be notified once scheduled. Please contact your child's counselor should you have any questions or concerns about your child's performance on district and/or state assessments.
Class of 2024 and 2025 Graduation Requirements (Updated May 2023)
- First Pathway: By completing, in Grade 11, the New Jersey Graduation Proficiency Assessment with a score of 725 or higher for English Language Arts and for Math; or
- Second Pathway: By meeting the designated cut score (on webpage linked above) on a substitute competency test such as the PSAT, SAT, ACT, or ACCUPLACER; or
- Third Pathway: By submitting, through the district, a student portfolio appeal to the New Jersey Department of Education.

New Jersey Graduation Proficiency Assessment (NJGPA):
- State assessment for graduation administered to Grade 11 students
New Jersey Student Learning Assessment (NJSLA):
- English Language Arts (ELA): Grades 3-9
- Math: Grades 3-9, including Algebra 1, Geometry and Algebra 2
- Science: Grades 5, 8 & 11
ACCESS 2.0 for English Language Learners:
- For K-12 students who have English as a secondary language
Dynamic Learning Maps (DLM):
- An alternate assessment for students in grades 3-9 with significant intellectual disabilities in ELA and Math
National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP):
- Administered to select schools across the nation for the National Report Card
DISTRICT and OTHER ASSESSMENTS
Acadience Reading:
- Replacing Dynamic Reading Assessment (DRA) for grades K-8
IXL:
- Math and ELA and Early Literacy diagnostic and benchmark assessments
- Administered multiple times throughout the school year
- A personalized learning platform for providing additional practice, tailored intervention/enrichment
The Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT):
- An assessment given to all 10th and 11th grade students
District Algebra Placement Test:
- An assessment for students in grades 5 and 6
- Part of the criteria used in placement for Algebra A Accelerated
Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery assessment (ASVAB) - An optional assessment for seniors
Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) - An optional college placement test for seniors
American College Test (ACT) - An optional college placement test for seniors
Avant STAMP Testing - An assessment administered to all 8th grade students to measure individual proficiency in the domains of reading, writing, listening, and speaking in a target language
