Scholarships

The Montclair Guidance Department encourages all seniors to investigate scholarship opportunities. National scholarships can be searched through one of any number of online scholarship search services, such as Fastweb or Chegg. Below is a list of useful websites.


Local/Regional Scholarships 

For a list of local or regional scholarships, please see below. The list is updated periodically as scholarships are received in the MHS Guidance Center. Please note, all scholarships that require a paper application are available  in the Guidance Center (Main Building, first floor). 



The Greater Newark and Essex County Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated is offering the Marion B. Frederick Scholarship for qualified applicants. Please see the Marion B. Frederick Scholarship Application for further details.


To help provide more individuals with the opportunity to get a solid education, Capital Auto Auction is awarding an annual scholarship to support students pursuing STEM-related degrees. The scholarship will be open until August 15th, 2019.  Value of scholarship: $1,000 (1 winner), $250 (2 runner ups). To qualify, undergraduate students must be majoring in a STEM field of study (or related field) as well as attending an accredited college or university.   
  

 

The New Jersey Chapter of the National Association of Water Companies Association is offering two $2,500 scholarships to high school students who will be attending a New Jersey college or university and are interested in the water utility industry or any related field. The scholarship application may be a obtained from http://www.nawc.org/membership/chapters-and-related-groups/new-jersey.aspx or in the Guidance Center.


The New Jersey Utilities Association (NJUA) annually awards the NJUA Excellence in Diversity Scholarship to a qualified, deserving New Jersey high school senior who meets the eligibility criteria. For the 2019 year, the Association will award two four-year scholarships, each providing $1,500 per academic year to students selected by their Scholarship Review Committee, who will be attending college in New Jersey. NJUA will also award two NJUA Trade and Vocational School Scholarships to qualified students selected by their Scholarship Review Committee, who will be pursuing a trade or vocational degree at an accredited school located in New Jersey. This award will total up to $1,500 per year. Application and information can be found at www.njua.com, or in the Guidance Center.



Wilshire Law Firm Student Scholar Award: Awarded to one outstanding student with $1,000 towards educational expenses.To apply, students must submit a 600 word essay describing the college major they are interested in and why. This essay should talk about how they plan to work in their chosen field to help their community. Mesothelioma Essay Scholarship Contest: Deadline to submit is July 20, 2019. This scholarship is a great one for students interested in a medical career. There will be 4 prizes, ranging from $2500 for first place to $500 for fourth place.You can view all of the details about this scholarship here: www.mesotheliomahelp.org/scholarship


Toby Merrill Scholarship Program: High academic performance in high school, high level of participation in extra curricular programs, letter of recommendation that speaks to character, leadership qualities, demonstrated need is considered, and interviews are required. U.S. Department of State High School Study Abroad Scholarships

The U.S. Department of State offers merit-based scholarships for American high school students to study abroad from three weeks to an academic year. Previous language study is not required for most programs.
